OddGodfrey: The Oddly Compelling Story of a Sailing Circumnavigation of the World

The oddly compelling story of a bid to sail around the world

January 31, 2018

New Year’s Visitors, Part 3, By Grin

by Leslie Godfrey in Sailing Season 2018, Indonesia

After their return from the dive trip, vacation chill set in.  Everyone enjoyed a second trip to the spa, lounging by the pool, comparing cocktail and sunset view establishments, wondering about the relative safety of tall barstools placed on a second story balcony with now railing.  Coffee and Brian also experienced, first hand, Captain Andrew's amazing ability to chase away live musicians.

Now you see him...

Now you don't...

Captain Andrew makes everyone try betlenut.  No one likes betlenut.

They learned that chicken floss on fried eggplant is everyone’s new favorite food.

They went shopping for Tais - “just for Coffee and Brian, I swear it!”  Leslie says.

I am not sure Brian appreciates Tais as much as Leslie does.

Leslie lied.

“Two matching Tais, large enough, soft enough and light enough to be Sonrisa’s bed blankets!”  Leslie says, trying to convince us all of the wisdom of the purchase.

On their last night in town, as tradition requires, they found a lobster dinner at the night market.  4 giant wood fire grilled lobsters, sautéed spinach, rice, fried eggplant, and Bintang:  $22 US per person.  Best dinner of the trip!

I think everyone had a good time.  At the end of the trip, I nudge Leslie.  “Leslie, psst… go get my boat stamp for Coffee!”

Leslie cringes and I can tell something is amiss.

“I would, but Coffee forgot her Adventure Log.”  She tells me.

Rats.  Everyone had a good time except me.  See you next time, Coffee and Brian!
